Foundation for Healthy Communities Honors NH Housing Finance Authority’s Ben Frost with Innovator’s Award

BRETTON WOODS – The Foundation for Healthy Communities recently honored Benjamin Frost, Director of Legal and Public Affairs at the New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority, with its distinguished Innovator’s Award for his support, commitment and dedication to the Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL NH) initiative during the Foundation’s annual meeting at the Omni Mount Washington Resort.

The Innovator’s Award celebrates extraordinary ingenuity, creativity and skill in improving health or healthcare access, delivery or quality.  Recipients are honored for their leadership or for extraordinary individual achievement in advancing these goals.

“Over the past eight years, Ben has been a dedicated partner in the Foundation for Healthy Communities Healthy Eating Active Living Initiative, and understands the link between social determinants of health and their importance when considering total population health,” stated Shawn LaFrance, Executive Director of the Foundation for Healthy Communities.  “His partnership and commitment to improving community health have been invaluable, and we couldn’t be more appreciative of his efforts and support throughout the years,” continued LaFrance.

A committed leader in educating planning, housing and transportation professionals about the connection between the built environment and health, Frost has led efforts to train community planners, public health professionals, and others to use Health Impact Assessments to evaluate the potential health effects of a community development projects before they are built or implemented.  As a result of the training, Health Impact Assessments conducted in Manchester, Laconia and Milford were among the first to be completed in New Hampshire.

In addition, Ben has been an active supporter of the statewide Complete Streets Coalition, co-led by HEAL, which successfully advocated for the establishment of a 2016 Legislative Complete Streets Study Committee, which will study policies to ensure that our roads are designed to enable safe access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit riders of all ages and all abilities.
